Professor of Child & Family Social Work, University of York
Professor Nina Biehal is based at the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at the University of York. Her Belonging and Permanence study (2010) compared outcomes for children who were adopted or in long-term foster care and included an exploration of children’s perspectives on adoption. She is currently co-directing the Permanently Progressing study, which is following up a large group of adopted and fostered children in Scotland who first entered out of home care before they were five years old. Professor Biehal has also completed many other studies of decision-making and outcomes for children and young people in out of home care, at risk of entry to care or returning home from care, family support and child protection.
